Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test (IVGTT with dual surgical catheterization) including blood glucose and plasma insulin.
In contrast to OGTT/IPGTT, IVGTT is performed in mice/rats surgically implanted with jugular vein and carotid artery catheters. Animals are studied under conscious and unrestrained conditions after 5-7 days postoperative recovery. Glucose (0.5~1.0g/kg ) or glucose plus arginine (0.5~1.0g/kg/ea) is injected via the venous catheter at 0.5~1.0g/kg. Blood samples are collected prior to and after the injection at time 0, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 minutes through the arterial catheter.
